Who or What Is On the Throne?

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus”

(Ephesians 2:1-7).

In light of this Scripture passage, let each of us prayerfully examine our life to see what lies at the center of it. Who or what sits on the throne? Who or what do I live for? For me to live is _________________________?

Is pride in myself a part of my secret thoughts? Do I imagine that my way is always right? Do I love to be noticed and to receive praise? Do I resent contradiction or disapproval? Am I stubborn and unreachable? Have I enthroned myself at the center of my universe?

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me and lead me in the everlasting way”

(Psalm 139:23-24).

It is our prayer that as YOU ponder these truths from scripture and pray them for yourself, you will plant seeds of truth and faith in the hearts of the younger ones God has placed in your life. What a joy and privilege to train and model for the next generation how to pray God's word daily!

ADULT PRAYER: My Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that You are not always on the throne of my life. I have let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell me how to live. It is a wonder that You haven’t lost Your temper and done away with me! Yet instead, immense in mercy and with incredible love, You embrace me. You take my sin-dead life and make me alive in Christ as I choose to respond to Your love. Come take the throne of my life, Lord. I am ready for change. LORD, CHANGE ME! In Jesus’ name, amen. So be it.

PRAYER FOR CHILDREN: Dear God, please help me to love You with all my heart and mind and strength. I want to learn how to love You more than anything in the entire world, because You are MY God! In Jesus’ name, amen.
